As an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (A-EMT) with the Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) you will: • Assumes responsibility for the provision of appropriate basic and advanced life support emergency medical and rescue activities up to the to the level of A-EMT, until relieved by a higher certified provider. • Provide care for patients in the pre-hospital environment including utilization of medications, IV therapy, and other associated tasks authorized at the A-EMT level; perform as a team member of an ambulance crew in situations involving both basic and advanced life support activities. • Determine transport destination to the most appropriate medical facility for sick and injured patients and communicate patient turn-over completely and effectively with healthcare facility medical team. • Safely operate emergency ambulance and other light duty emergency response vehicles in emergency and non-emergency modes. • Follow all emergency medical services regulations and applicable protocols. • Complete reports and documentation accurately, efficiently, and within required timelines including patient care reports, and equipment and apparatus checkoffs. • Attend classes and successfully perform those activities required to familiarize and maintain currency with the proper practices and procedures of emergency medical services to affect an efficient delivery of services. • Effectively communicate and interact positively with coworkers, volunteers, patients, bystanders, citizens, and other public safety agency personnel. • Exercise leadership, motivation, and mentorship to volunteer EMTs in the provision of medical assessment and care; work seamlessly with career and volunteer personnel to incorporate department and City vision and goals for quality service. Click here for details. Starting pay will be the minimum of the pay grade unless a candidate has qualifying full-time equivalent experience. Full-time equivalent experience is employment in a licensed EMS agency at the AEMT level. Also, every full year of active VBEMS volunteer experience will be counted as one-quarter of a year; four years VBEMS volunteer experience counts as one full year of full-time equivalent.
