Assume responsibility of the provision of basic and advance life support emergency medical and rescue activities. Provide supervisor and care of patients in the pre-hospital environment including the utilization of monitor/defibrillators, numerous medication, endotracheal intubation, IV therapy, and other associated tasks; perform critical basic and advance life support procedures according to medical protocol; and perform independently in situations involving both basic and advanced life support activities. Direct subordinates, including certified first responders, EMT-Basic technicians, EMT-A Technicians, and EMT Enhanced technicians in the provisions of medical care; work seamlessly with both career and volunteer personnel; and exercise leadership and motivate subordinates to incorporate the department and City's vision and goals for quality service. Safely operate emergency ambulance and other light duty emergency medical response vehicles. Follow all emergency medical services regulations and protocols. Provide field evaluation and training to basic life support personnel; and conduct training programs Assume initial command of scenes involving multiple patients or complex incidents. Attend class and perform those activities required to familiarize and maintain currency with the proper practices and procedures of emergency medical services to effect an efficient delivery of services. Interact positively with citizens and other City agencies. Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements a demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on then current workloads and department needs. Performance Standards: Strict confidentiality is a must in this position Member must maintain control of rescue scenes; assume role of attendant-in-charge on all advance life support incidents Effectively determine the nature and extent of illness or injury to a patient; administer medical treatment to and transport sick and injured patients to the most appropriate medical facility Direct supporting personnel as required; effectively communicate with patients, bystanders, and members of the emergency health care team; complete detailed patient care reports Complete evaluations of subordinate personnel; act as field training officer for basic and advance life support personnel as assigned Safely operate emergency vehicles; perform basic maintenance of equipment Effectively participate in and contribute to training drills Interact tactfully and courteously with career and volunteer emergency services personnel; maintain appearance in accordance with department standards Discharge all duties according to City policy, departmental guidelines, and EMS regulations; demonstrate ability to work under high stress conditions Direct the activities of all personnel on scene in the absence of a formal supervisor; and interact positively with citizens, members, and potential recruits
