FULL TIME INTERMEDIATE/PARAMEDIC EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The Highland County Department of Emergency Medical Services, located in Monterey Virginia, is announcing an employment opportunity for the position of full-time Paramedic. The expected starting date for this position is July 1, 2020. Highland County Department of EMS works in conjunction with the Highland County Volunteer Rescue Squad to supplement volunteer staffing and answer 911 emergency calls. Transport times can range from 45 minutes upward to two hours depending on the call location. Highland County is unique in geography and has one of the highest average elevations east of the Mississippi River and many remote locations. During the interview process, applicants will have to complete a written examination that assesses critical thinking skills, basic life support knowledge, and advanced life support knowledge. Applicants will also have to complete a medical and/or trauma scenario. All applicants will be subject to a background screening in accordance with Virginia Office of EMS regulations and will need to provide a copy of their DMV driving record. Employees will operate on a 24/48 rotating schedule from 0800-0800 and will be assigned to a permanent shift. The annual salary for this position is $43,000 - $45,000. If accepted, applicants will be eligible to receive county benefits which include health, vision, and dental benefits. This position is eligible for the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). Full-time employees are also eligible for an annual training allowance that can be used for various EMS CE events/classes. Qualifications • High School Diploma or GED • Valid Driver’s license • Valid Virginia Intermediate or Paramedic certification (National Registry Preferred) • ACLS (Or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire) • PALS (Or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire) • Professional CPR certification • EVOC Class II certification that satisfies VAOEMS requirements • Hazardous Materials Awareness • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800 Resumes must be submitted by June 10, 2020.
