Communications Center – Call Taker LifeCare Medical Transports, Inc. – Fredericksburg, VA General Description: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency call while entering information into a CAD system. Must be able to provide a high level of customer service to all customers; internal and external. Must be able to work comfortably in a high volume, high stress environment. Must be able to accurately type 40 wpm. Shifts: LifeCare is a 24-hour operation, and the shifts and/or schedule will vary dependent upon the needs of the organization; must be available for days, evenings and overnights. Essential Functions: • Receives emergency and non-emergency calls through radio system and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system. • Processes and evaluates information received, prioritizes calls. • Utilizes technology such as computers, radio systems, telephones, fax machines and other communication equipment. • Provides exceptional customer service at all times to all crews and callers. • Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned shifts. • Keeps informed of departmental regulations, policies and procedures. • Communicate effectively with station supervisors to provide information regarding ongoing issues. • Ensures all calls are entered in a timely fashion and any concerns or issues are reported to the appropriate department or member of management. • Other duties as assigned. Skills, Abilities & Knowledge • General knowledge of EMS industry • Excellent oral and written communication skills to include; • *Speaks clearly over the telephone and radio *Ability to use computer proficiently *Types a minimum of 40 words per minute accurately. *Able to communicate verbally with co-workers, supervisors and executive Management. • Ability to make fast and accurate decision. • Ability to work in a high stress environment • Flexible with shift/schedule assignments • Ability to adapt, handle complex situations, and prioritize projects/assignments in a timely manner
